Spark Plug Structure

The structure of the spark plug is divided into three parts, the central electrode, the steel body and the side electrode, and the insulating ceramic core. The center electrode is made of nickel or a nickel alloy and can withstand the high temperatures of the explosion. The upper part of the steel is made of hexagonal so that the wrench can be disassembled and assembled, and the lower part has a screw thread that can be screwed into the cylinder head. Spark Plug Function

The spark plug basically has two functions: one is to generate a spark in the combustion chamber, and to ignite the mixed steam to generate power. The second is to seal the spark plug hole to maintain the pressure inside the cylinder.

Generally, the high-voltage power supplied to the spark plug from the ignition coil through the distribution board through the wire is about 20,000 to 30,000 volts, and the electrode of the spark plug must always be in a high-temperature combustion chamber and an environment above about 45 times atmospheric pressure, and Also maintain a very high air tightness. Maintenance of Spark Plugs

Spark plugs on outboard aircraft must be inspected, repaired or replaced periodically to ensure optimum performance of the outboard. High performance spark plugs improve power performance.

Normally, the spark plug has a service life of 15,000 km. Proper maintenance and regular maintenance can extend the life of the spark plug. The following are basic maintenance measures:

1. Check if the spark plug is wet by the oil; if there is crack; whether there is carbon deposit on the ceramic or the electrode; whether the electrode is ablated or the gap is too large.

2. The lower part of the spark plug is brownish yellow, and the electrode has a slight ablation. This indicates that the heat of the spark plug is suitable and can be used after cleaning.

3. If there is dry charcoal on the spark plug, it is generally because the mixture is too rich. After removing the charcoal, the spark plug can continue to be used, but adjust the carburetor or check the air filter;

4. Check the gap of the spark plug electrode. If necessary, adjust the gap to the specified value. The specified value is between 0.6 mm and 0.7 mm. It is best to use the correct type of spark plug replacement.
